PE and Sports Premium

The government provides additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. The ‘ring-fenced’ funding – only to be spent on PE and sport – goes directly to schools who decide what is best for their children’s needs with the aim of improving the quality of provision in every state primary school in England. This could vary from specialist coaching and teacher training to dedicated sports programmes, sport clubs and support for after-school or inter school competition.

For the academic year 2023/24 £20, 270 has been allocated. a A full report on how this money has been allocated is published below and the impact will be reviewed at the end of the academic year.

Lowerplace Primary PE and Sport Premium Statement 2022 - 23 Evaluated

Lowerplace employs qualified sports coaches to work alongside class teachers in KS1 and KS2. All class teachers are involved in PE sessions with their own classes, so that their own subject knowledge and confidence is enhanced.

In order to expose and encourage children to participate in different sports, there are numerous after school clubs which aim to give children opportunities to learn new and exciting skills.

Furthermore, Lowerplace is part of the Rochdale Connect (previously IPLCN) group of schools which organises a range of inter-school sports activities and friendly matches. Throughout the year, children are given opportunities to partake in sports such as netball, football, athletics, dance and cricket. The Sports Premium funds these opportunities through enabling the employment of TAs to run and support after school clubs, and pays for associated transport costs.
